Introducing the New Sony MDR-3R Headphones

Sony has brought back its legendary MDR-3 headphones, originally launched in 1979, with a modern update called the MDR-3R. The original MDR-3 gained iconic status as the perfect companion to Sony’s Walkman TPS-L2 cassette player, symbolizing an entire era. The new MDR-3R retains key elements like the original 23mm drivers, preserving the classic sound while integrating contemporary features such as a USB Type-C port, an in-line remote control, and a built-in microphone.

Exclusive Editions and Upcoming Releases

Alongside the standard MDR-3R, Sony has unveiled a limited edition collaboration with Netflix, featuring a striking red and black color scheme. This special version is priced at €70, while the regular MDR-3R headphones are available for €60.

In addition, Sony is preparing to launch the wireless PlayStation Pulse headset on November 19, 2023 — coinciding with the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI on the PS5. The Pulse headset will retail for $100 (around 4500 UAH) and comes in both white and black options. It is priced $50 less than the PlayStation Pulse Elite, Sony’s first headset equipped with planar magnetic drivers.

The PlayStation Pulse features larger planar magnetic drivers than the Elite model, delivering richer, deeper bass and crystal-clear sound. Sony emphasizes the headset's precise spatial audio positioning, a crucial feature for gamers. Early reviews highlight an impressive audio balance across frequencies, with bright and clean mids and highs, as well as reliable stereo separation when tested with tracks like "Any Major Dude Will Tell You" by Steely Dan.

These new releases highlight Sony’s efforts to blend nostalgic design with state-of-the-art technology, appealing to both longtime fans and new users alike. The focus on audio innovation underscores the growing importance of premium sound gear in entertainment, especially as demand rises for wireless and gamer-focused peripherals. Success with these products could significantly strengthen Sony’s standing in the competitive audio and gaming accessory markets.

As Sony gears up for the launch of the new PlayStation Pulse wireless headset on November 19, 2023, coinciding with the much-anticipated GTA VI, fans are eager to see how these innovative products will enhance their gaming experience. The combination of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology in the MDR-3R headphones and the upcoming headset showcases Sony's commitment to delivering exceptional audio quality for both casual listeners and dedicated gamers alike.
