SpaceX has canceled the subscription fee for Starlink in Iran

SpaceX has canceled the subscription fee for the Starlink satellite internet for users in Iran. This decision was taken in response to the network blockage imposed by the Iranian government during mass protests in the country. This decision was confirmed by Ahmad Ahmadian, a company representative.

It should be noted that there has been virtually no internet access in Iran for the fifth day, complicating communication and access to information for local residents. In this situation amidst the protests, US President Donald Trump reached out to Elon Musk requesting to restore connectivity in the region, emphasizing the importance of internet connectivity in crisis situations.

The situation in Iran and the US reaction

Additionally, due to the tense situation in Iran, the US embassy urged American citizens to leave the country immediately. It is noted that the situation is complicated by road blockages, disruptions to public transport, and internet outages, creating additional difficulties for protesters and the general population.

This decision by SpaceX aims to support Iranian users during times of crisis, when access to information and communication is critically important. In the context of internet blockage and other means of communication, restoring access via satellite internet may help citizens obtain information about events in the country and ensure contact with relatives and friends. The company's decision may also be perceived as a gesture of support for human rights in the context of protests against the Iranian government.
