Weather Outlook for Ukraine on June 26
A warming trend is set to take hold across Ukraine starting June 26, carrying into the weekend. A heatwave moving in from Western Europe will push Sunday's temperatures to a high of +32 to +37°C. On Friday, daytime temperatures in the western regions will range from +28 to +34°C, while the south will see around +30°C. Most other parts of the country will experience temperatures between +24 and +29°C.
However, rain is also in the forecast. Brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the eastern regions, as well as in parts of Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr oblasts. Much of Ukraine will remain dry, including Kyiv, where rain is unlikely. The capital's maximum temperature on June 26 is forecast to be +26 to +27°C.
Meteorologist Advice
Forecaster Natalia Didenko pointed out that western Ukraine will be the first to feel the intense heat. She also noted that a recent extreme heatwave had stalled just before the country's western borders, while Western Europe suffered temperatures of +40°C and higher.
'We still have a perfectly acceptable, comfortable summer temperature, and not appreciating it—or failing to see it—is at least odd. Even if it's +30°C or slightly above, we are in Ukraine, not Norway,' Didenko emphasized.
The meteorologist recommends that citizens:
- conserve electricity;
- gradually clear out refrigerators and freezers;
- stock up on heart medication and pain relievers;
- shade windows;
- air out woolen items and winter blankets on the balcony.
