Inna Kardash Exposed as a Spy
Belarusian citizen Inna Kardash has been exposed as a spy working for the Belarusian KGB. She was employed at the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for Prisoners of War under the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), where she collected classified information. A joint special operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the GUR uncovered her activities even before she was formally hired for the position. This case highlights the persistent threat of foreign espionage targeting Ukraine's defense and intelligence apparatus.
Kardash's Espionage Activities
Inna Kardash had been residing in Ukraine since 2019. During this period, she maintained contact with a Belarusian citizen who collaborated with Belarusian special services and began working with representatives of the Committee for State Security of the Republic of Belarus (KGB). From November 21 to December 19, 2025, Kardash systematically gathered official information by photographing documents and making audio recordings. The information she collected constituted a state secret in the sphere of state security and law enforcement.
The GUR identified Kardash as a threat before she could formally join the headquarters unit. The SBU and GUR initiated a long-term operational game with the agent, which allowed them to document her every move and feed disinformation to the Belarusian intelligence service. The special operation to expose her was conducted jointly by the GUR and SBU under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General. According to the GUR, Kardash had been working for the Belarusian KGB since 2015 and was dispatched to conduct intelligence work on Ukrainian territory in 2020.
It is also noted that Inna Kardash worked as a correspondent in the editorial office of the Interfax-Ukraine news agency from June 2021 until early September 2024. She was dismissed from the agency in November 2024. Thanks to her timely exposure, SBU and GUR operatives were able not only to document her actions but also to consistently feed disinformation to the Belarusian special service.
The exposure of Inna Kardash marks a significant step in the fight of Ukrainian special services against foreign espionage, particularly amid rising tensions between Ukraine and Belarus. It underscores the need for vigilance and the readiness of Ukrainian security agencies to counter potential threats to national security originating from neighboring countries.
The coordinated actions of the SBU and GUR, along with an effective monitoring system, enable the timely detection of foreign agents and prevent the leakage of vital information.
