Geraskevych Case: Attorney Refutes Claims of Yermak's Involvement in Appeal

Yevhen Pronin, the former acting president of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, has denied reports that Andriy Yermak is involved in the case of Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Geraskevych. The legal process to appeal the athlete's disqualification to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is now underway. This case highlights the complex intersection of international sports governance and national politics.

Pronin, who is also a lawyer, emphasized that information regarding Andriy Yermak's participation in this matter is inaccurate. Andriy Yermak, the former head of the President's Office, is not involved in the process. This clarification comes after Masi Nayem, a veteran and founder of the Miller law firm, had previously stated that Yermak would participate in challenging the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to disqualify Vladyslav Geraskevych from the 2026 Olympics.

Disqualification and Legal Proceedings

Geraskevych's disqualification resulted from his act of honoring deceased colleagues with a tribute on his helmet. The Ukrainian side has initiated the legal procedure to appeal this decision. Lawyer Yevhen Pronin has submitted the relevant statement to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) with the goal of restoring the athlete's right to compete in the 2026 Olympic Games. Pronin stated:

“Perhaps it is implied that he wants to be involved in a major process at CAS in the future, but in this current process, I am the only lawyer, and I am assisted only by my team - Yevhen Pronin.”

Thus, the attorney confirmed that he is the sole representative of Geraskevych's interests in this case and refuted rumors about the involvement of other individuals, specifically Andriy Yermak.

The Vladyslav Geraskevych case draws attention to issues of sports ethics and the legal aspects of athlete disqualifications. An appeal to CAS can have a significant impact on an athlete's career and on the international image of a nation's sports program. The situation underscores the importance of accurate media reporting, as incorrect information can lead to misunderstandings and undue pressure on the individuals involved.
