Hearing Held in Case of Boy's Death
A hearing took place on February 5, 2926, at the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn District Court concerning the death of a 10-year-old boy. The child tragically drowned on August 3, 2023, at the Olympic Village sports and recreation complex. During the hearing, the defense filed a motion to recuse the group of prosecutors assigned to the case, a request that became the central topic of discussion.
The incident that led to the trial occurred while the boy was swimming in a lake. He was left unsupervised and, unfortunately, drowned. Two individuals are implicated in the case:
- A coach, suspected of violating Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for leaving a minor in danger, resulting in the child's death;
- The director of a private company, suspected of violating occupational safety requirements under Part 2 of Article 271 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The company director is currently the subject of an international search warrant.
The case remains under the constant supervision of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko. Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Logachov commented on the recusal motion, stating that the prosecution considers it groundless. He emphasized that such actions delay the judicial proceedings and show disrespect for the victims, particularly the parents of the deceased child, who are forced to travel daily from the Odesa region to attend court while awaiting a just verdict. This case highlights the often lengthy and emotionally taxing nature of Ukraine's judicial process.
