On September 15, Kyiv will complete the transitional period after the increase in fares in public transport. Unused cheap rides purchased before July 15 will not be canceled, but their cost will be transferred to the transport card's «Wallet». Then passengers will pay for new rides at the current rates. Transport fares in Kyiv after September 15: what will happen to old rides
Since July 15, a single ride on the metro, bus, tram, and trolleybus costs 30 UAH. For those who buy ride packages, the price is lower: from 28.90 UAH for 10-19 rides to 25 UAH for a package of 50.
Rides purchased before July 14 at old tariffs are valid until September 14 inclusive. On September 15, they will be converted into funds on the transport wallet, rather than canceled.
For example, ten unused rides at 6.50 UAH will turn into 65 UAH. This money can be spent on new rides, but they will already be charged at a rate of 25-30 UAH depending on the chosen package.

Co-founder of the NGO «Passengers of Kyiv» Oleksandr Hrechko noted in a comment to TSN that it is more accurate to assess the impact of the increase on passenger flow after the transitional period ends. Some Kyiv residents are still using rides purchased before the tariff changes.
According to him, the largest increase may affect people who have to travel to work every day: medical workers, educators, social workers, and other budget employees. This is especially true for those who commute to Kyiv from the region and spend money not only on city transport.
Respected Ukrainian doctor Olga Holubovska pointed out that a medical worker's travel expenses from the region to Kyiv and back can exceed 600 UAH per shift. However, this is an expert assessment and not an official calculation by the city authorities.
The Kyiv City State Administration explained the fare increase by the rising costs of transport enterprises. According to their calculations, the economically justified cost of a ride in 2026 was 64.60 UAH in the metro and 44.14 UAH in ground public transport.
It should be noted that on the night of August 5, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine, specifically targeting the capital region. As a result of the attacks in Kyiv region, 14 people died, including eight passengers waiting for a train at the Kvitneva station in the Brovary district.
