The USA allowed Ukraine to strike Russian oil refineries: what will change

The Trump administration has made the decision to provide Ukraine with additional intelligence for missile strikes deep into Russian territory. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials.

The authorization was granted shortly before the US president made a sharp statement toward Vladimir Putin, asserting on social media that Ukraine is capable of reclaiming all occupied territories. At the same time, Washington urged NATO allies to provide Kyiv with similar support.

"For the first time, the Trump administration will facilitate Ukrainian strikes with long-range missiles on energy facilities on Russian territory. Thanks to the intelligence exchange, Ukraine will have the opportunity to more effectively hit oil refineries, pipelines, power plants, and other facilities far behind the front line. The goal is to deprive the Kremlin of revenues and resources to continue the war."

At the same time, the USA is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles, Barracuda, and other missiles of the 'ground-to-ground' and 'ground-to-air' classes with a range of up to 800 kilometers. A final decision on supplying this weapon has not yet been made, sources of the publication emphasized.

"Intelligence combined with more powerful weapons can inflict significantly more damage on energy infrastructure than previous Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. According to one of the officials, American representatives expect written instructions from the White House to begin providing the necessary information."

Two Reuters sources independently confirmed that the USA will provide Ukraine with intelligence about remote energy infrastructure targets in Russian territory.

Moscow has not yet commented on this information. Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated on October 1 that Moscow will be able to find a response if Washington decides to supply Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles.
