The USA may demand elections and peace by May 15: what is known about Washington's plans

Western media, including the Financial Times, report on possible U.S. demands for presidential elections and peace agreements in Ukraine by May 15. This information is actively discussed against the backdrop of Volodymyr Zelensky's statement that on February 24 he will announce plans for presidential elections and a referendum.

The President's Office of Ukraine stated: 'Security remains a key condition for holding elections in Ukraine.'

The issue of security for voting remains the most pressing amid the current situation on the front lines. Over four years of war, Russian troops, according to some experts, have only increased their controlled territory in Donbas by 1%, however, they are situated just 10 km from Zaporizhzhia, illustrating the complexities of ensuring the country's security.

Analysts are considering possible ways to organize the elections, including:

  • a temporary ceasefire under an agreement with the U.S. and Russia;
  • the organization of remote voting.

The political field is potentially preparing for presidential elections

Among the possible candidates are mentioned:

  • incumbent president Volodymyr Zelensky;
  • former commander Valerii Zaluzhnyi;
  • ex-president Petro Poroshenko;
  • head of the GUR Kyrylo Budanov;
  • commander of the Azov regiment Andrii Biletsky.

Volodymyr Zelensky, who controls the parliament of Ukraine, currently has significant administrative resources, making him one of the main favorites in the event of an election process.
