US, Ukraine, and Russia to Hold Talks

US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkopf has revealed plans for a new diplomatic initiative, involving three-way meetings with Ukraine and potentially with Russia. This development comes as the conflict in Eastern Europe continues, with international diplomacy seen as a critical path to de-escalation. Witkopf, alongside Jared Kushner, intends to meet in Geneva with Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov. The American delegation is also scheduled to work with Iranian counterparts in Geneva this week.

Following the meeting in Switzerland, Umerov may travel to the United States for further negotiations. There is also a possibility that a trilateral meeting between the US, Ukraine, and Russia will be convened after initial contacts with the Ukrainian side are finalized. Delegations from the three nations could hold a subsequent round of talks within the next 10 days. The most recent negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in Geneva concluded on February 18.

Progress in Negotiations

Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, noted that the conversation was difficult but important. He also stressed that the details of the negotiation process cannot be made public. White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt stated that significant progress was achieved during the trilateral talks in Geneva.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of holding the negotiation process in Europe and noted that the Ukrainian delegation receives clear directives before each round of peace talks.

The planned trilateral meetings represent a crucial stage in negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with the United States acting as a mediator. Given that the last talks were held over six months ago, this new round could prove decisive amid the ongoing tense relations between the states. The participation of high-ranking officials from all sides indicates a serious intent to find a compromise and continue dialogue, which could, in turn, influence the regional situation.

A subsequent meeting concerning the end of the Russo-Ukrainian war is scheduled to take place in Switzerland.
