Remarks from the U.S. Secretary of State and Donald Trump’s Agenda

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that the United States does not intend to withdraw from NATO. However, the administration under Donald Trump is set to push for major reforms within the alliance. This information comes from reports by the Associated Press and Glavcom. Trump himself plans to attend the annual NATO leaders’ meeting scheduled for July 7–8 in Ankara, Turkey.

At the NATO summit, Trump is expected to urge member countries to increase their defense spending. He has expressed frustration with certain allies, notably Spain, for refusing to provide air bases for a potential U.S. military campaign against Iran. Despite these tensions, the United States remains a member of NATO and insists that the alliance must undergo structural changes.

G7 Summit Plans

In addition, Donald Trump has announced his intention to attend the G7 summit in France later this month. He will travel to the event following UFC matches. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also plans to participate in the G7 summit, set to take place in Évian-les-Bains in late June. Details of Zelenskyy’s visit were obtained from Politico and three officials.

Notably, the previous G7 summit in Canada in June 2025 concluded with agreements to boost military support for Ukraine, release new funding tranches from frozen Russian assets, and impose additional sanctions on Russia. Zelenskyy has called on partners to accelerate deliveries of air defense systems and establish their production in Ukraine.

Key figures in these developments include Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The G7 summit will involve representatives from:

  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Canada
  • the United Kingdom
  • the United States

These events underscore the continuation of an active U.S. foreign policy aimed at preserving NATO’s role as the cornerstone of collective security amid emerging challenges. At the same time, the planned G7 meetings reflect international efforts to support Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression and the need to strengthen cooperation on defense systems. This could significantly shape future relations among allies and contribute to regional stability.
