Limited-Edition US Passports Announced

The US Department of State has unveiled plans for a limited run of redesigned passports to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Set to launch in July 2026 as part of the America250 initiative, these special documents will feature President Donald Trump’s portrait on the inside cover, positioned against the backdrop of the Declaration of Independence text. His signature will also be embossed in gold.

What the New Passport Design Includes

Inside the passport, additional pages will showcase illustrations tied to US history, including a depiction of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The State Department has confirmed that the design is intended to mark this major national milestone. While all standard security features remain in place, these passports will be issued at no extra cost when applying for a new document—though quantities will be strictly limited.

“To honor America’s 250th birthday, we are releasing a specially designed limited-edition passport,” said State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

The Treasury Department has also confirmed plans to feature President Trump’s signature on paper currency, signaling a broader government focus on commemorating pivotal historical moments through official documents and symbols.

This initiative reflects the US government’s effort to highlight significant historical events and figures. Featuring President Trump’s signature on both passports and currency may underscore the administration’s aim to promote patriotism and national identity during the anniversary celebrations. Alongside other planned festivities, these measures could help boost civic pride and public interest in the country’s history.
