U.S. Targets Iran's Shadow Fleet and Missile Networks with Fresh Sanctions

Сполучені Штати вводять нові обмеження проти іранських військових та торговельних структур.

U.S. Unveils New Sanctions Package Against Iran

The United States has announced a new sanctions package aimed at disrupting networks that assist Iran in selling oil while evading international restrictions, as well as those supporting the development of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial systems. The sanctions target over 30 individuals and entities, along with 12 vessels belonging to Iran's so-called "shadow fleet." These vessels have been instrumental in transporting oil, enabling Iran to circumvent international sanctions. The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has focused on networks supporting Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. These networks facilitate the procurement of critical technologies and components for ballistic missile production and infrastructure for exporting drones to third countries.

Scope and Implications of the Restrictions

The new sanctions impose an asset freeze on designated persons and entities within U.S. jurisdiction and prohibit transactions for American companies. This action is part of a broader U.S. strategy to counter Iranian activities that threaten regional stability. In a related move, the U.S. had previously sanctioned individuals and entities linked to cybercrime operations based in Russia and the United Arab Emirates. Among those targeted are Russian national Sergey Zelenyuk and his company Matrix LLC (Operation Zero), along with associated persons and entities, including one registered in the UAE and others in Russia.

The specific focus on ballistic missiles and drones highlights Washington's concerns over potential Iranian threats to regional security. Furthermore, the sanctions against cybercrime-linked individuals demonstrate a comprehensive U.S. approach to combating global threats that extend beyond traditional military domains. These measures reflect ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitical challenges posed by Iran's activities.
