Ukraine is preparing to receive the first batch of new long-range air-to-surface ERAM missiles from the USA. The Pentagon is accelerating the transfer of these missiles, and Ukraine will receive the first prototypes by October 2025. In total, the supply of 840 ERAM missiles is planned by the end of October 2026, produced by two companies: CoAspire (Virginia) and Zone 5 Technologies (California).

Characteristics of ERAM missiles

  • Type: long-range air-to-surface cruise missile.

  • Range: up to 463 km (250 nautical miles).

  • Warhead weight: about 250-260 kg, with options for armor-piercing or high-explosive fragmentation.

  • Accuracy: CEP ≤ 10 meters, with capability to operate in conditions of active electronic countermeasures.

  • Purpose: targeting ground and naval targets. The modular design allows the missile to be adapted for various tasks.

According to information from Aviation Week magazine, these missiles were developed within just 14 months after the tender announcement in August 2024, which is extremely rapid in the US defense industry. During the initial tests, the ERAM missiles were tested on Douglas A-4 and MiG-29 aircraft.

The Pentagon plans to procure these missiles for its own needs and for at least three foreign customers, including Ukraine. There is also consideration for the integration of these missiles into the US Air Force, which will enhance their capability for air attacks.

The supply of new long-range ERAM missiles from the USA to Ukraine opens new opportunities for the Ukrainian army in the context of the escalating geopolitical situation in the region, allowing for improved defense capabilities and potential responses to possible threats.
