The State of Ukraine's Healthcare System as of February 1, 2026
Due to the full-scale armed aggression by the Russian Federation, the condition of Ukraine's healthcare system remains critical as of February 1, 2026. This ongoing conflict has inflicted severe damage on the nation's medical infrastructure. Available data confirms that 2,562 facilities, which are part of 819 distinct healthcare institutions, have been damaged or destroyed. Among these, 328 facilities constituting 125 institutions have been completely demolished.
Losses and Reconstruction of Medical Institutions
The regions that have suffered the most significant losses to their medical facilities are:
- Donetsk
- Kharkiv
- Kherson
- Luhansk
- Zaporizhzhia
- Mykolaiv
To date, 725 facilities have been fully restored, while reconstruction is currently underway on 324 others. Notably, 67 facilities have sustained repeated damage during the conflict. Full-scale medical care is being provided at 1,555 facilities, with a further 185 operating on a partial basis. A critical adaptation has been the relocation of 234 healthcare institutions to alternative premises. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, 284 emergency medical vehicles have been destroyed, 175 have been damaged, and 80 have been seized by enemy forces. The situation remains complex, and the restoration of medical facilities continues.
Consequently, Ukraine's healthcare system requires sustained support to overcome the consequences of aggression and restore the full operation of its medical institutions. While a portion of facilities have been repaired, many still need assistance, jeopardizing the population's access to essential medical services. The international community has provided aid, but the scale of destruction is immense. Further recovery efforts for the healthcare system will be critically important for ensuring medical care continues under wartime conditions.
