Stellantis plans to produce cars in Ukraine: condition - security after the war

Автовиробник Stellantis розглядає можливість налагодження виробництва автомобілів в Україні, з урахуванням безпекових питань після закінчення війни.

Car production in Ukraine: new horizons for Stellantis

Stellantis has announced its intention to start car production in Ukraine as part of its development strategy up to 2035. CEO Ruslan Akimov emphasized that the implementation of the project depends on the completion of the war and security guarantees. It is noted that Ukraine is being considered as a key platform for car production in the future.

Currently, 60% of Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel cars sold to businesses have a Ukrainian component. This indicates the importance of Ukraine in the supply chain and car production for the group. Stellantis has three certified Ukrainian partners for product exports, which also strengthens the company's position in the market.

History and prospects

In the past, in 2009-2010, the PSA group considered building a factory in Ukraine; however, it was decided to choose Russia. Today, under the changed geopolitical situation, the company is once again turning its attention to the Ukrainian market. However, as Ruslan Akimov noted, the implementation of the investment project is possible only under one condition - the completion of the war and security guarantees.

Among Stellantis's Ukrainian partners are the following companies:

  • LLC 'Reform', specializing in the armoring of cars and cash-in-transit vehicles;
  • LLC 'Avtospecprom', which is the main manufacturer of ambulances in Ukraine;
  • LLC 'VIDI Unicommerce', producing a wide range of special vehicles.

These enterprises can become important players in the development of Ukrainian automotive manufacturing within the framework of the group's new initiatives.

Stellantis's statement about its intention to start production in Ukraine indicates the company's strategic reorientation in the context of new global challenges and changes in the geopolitical situation. Considering the Ukrainian component in car production emphasizes the country's importance as a key player in the European automotive sector. The implementation of this project could have a significant economic impact on Ukrainian industry, especially in the context of the war and the country's recovery after the conflict.
