Heavy Rain Hits the Capital: Fourth Day of Severe Weather in Kyiv Region

Storm Conditions in Kyiv and Vinnytsia Regions

On May 22, a powerful downpour struck Kyiv, flooding streets and disrupting traffic. This marks the fourth consecutive day of harsh weather in the Kyiv region, where conditions have worsened significantly. In addition to the capital, the storm also affected Vinnytsia region, where late on May 22, State Emergency Service (SES) teams responded to 15 weather-related calls.

Of these 15 callouts:

  • 13 involved clearing trees felled by the wind,
  • two required pumping water from flooded homes.

The situation across the regions remains difficult, as a Level I (yellow) danger warning was issued across Ukraine on May 22. Gusts of up to 20 m/s were recorded in the southern, central (excluding Poltava), and Kharkiv regions, accompanied by thunderstorms and localized hail.
