From January 1, 2026, drivers in the Netherlands will need to follow road rules closely, as the government plans a significant increase in fines. One of the most discussed points is the tightening of penalties for using gadgets while driving.
Now, for such a violation, a driver can receive a fine of 440 euros. The new measures will also affect those who do not adhere to traffic rules at intersections or drive aggressively.
The new fines will also target speeding and improper parking. Even a small excess can 'enrich' the pockets of the fine collectors. Thus, for exceeding the speed limit by just 5 km/h in the city, the fine will be 46 euros, and for more serious violations, the penalty amount will increase significantly.
Foreign drivers will also not be spared from the new rules. Even outside the Netherlands, they may be penalized for violations. Remember that failure to pay fines will lead to increased debt due to penalties.
“During monitoring of social media, the police service in Kyiv came across a video where a man imitates the behavior of law enforcement officers, causing harm and using foul language.”
In the Netherlands, starting from 2026, a significant increase in fines for car owners is planned, particularly for using gadgets while driving and other traffic rule violations.
