Refutation of Information on Penalty Points
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has refuted information regarding the introduction of a penalty points system for drivers from 2026. According to the Ministry's statement, the issue of penalty points is currently under consideration, and no final decisions have been made yet.
As a reminder, the penalty points system for drivers is not currently in place in Ukraine. This has caused certain rumors and misunderstandings among drivers. It is important to note that the Ministry emphasized:
“For such large-scale innovations, we will definitely inform the public in advance.”.
Changes in Germany and their Impact on Ukraine
At the same time, Germany recently changed the rules for exchanging old driver's licenses. The time frame for exchanging licenses depends on the date of issuance of the document, and all European Union countries must transition to a single standard of licenses by 2033. Germany has introduced a phased schedule for exchanging old-style licenses, which may influence discussions of similar initiatives in Ukraine.
The refutation of information about the introduction of a penalty points system from the Ministry indicates the importance of communication with the public regarding legislative changes. In the context of constant changes in Ukraine's transport policy and considering European experience, the issue of improving the system for controlling drivers remains relevant. The potential impact of reforms in European countries may push Ukrainian legislation to adopt new initiatives in this area.
