Penalty points are not introduced in Ukraine: what is really happening
In Ukraine, starting from 2026, penalty points for traffic violations are not being introduced, which was refuted by the National Police. As of January 2026, penalty points are not part of the Ukrainian punishment system for drivers. There are bills registered in parliament that intend to address this issue; however, no final decisions have been made by the deputies yet.
The representatives of the Patrol Police stated that the information about the start of the accumulative penalty system does not correspond to reality. At the same time, the National Police noted that the introduction of penalty points is a significant innovation that drivers will be warned about in advance through all official channels. Thus, for now, the issue of introducing penalty points remains open, and drivers should not worry about new sanctions in the near future.
Relevance of the issue
The absence of penalty points at the moment may reduce drivers' concerns about potential innovations in the punishment system; however, this issue remains relevant. Legislative initiatives in this regard indicate the government's intention to improve the system of monitoring traffic rule compliance in the future, which may lead to improved road safety.
