Surge protection through attacks: which equipment is vulnerable and how to protect it

Захист обладнання від атак: вразливі компоненти і методи оборони.

Ukrainians were informed about which equipment is most sensitive to voltage fluctuations and how it can be protected. Electrical engineer Anatolii Hichka discussed this on the air of 'Kyiv24'.

In connection with attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, voltage surges in the electrical networks are possible. Some household appliances are very sensitive to such surges. The specialist emphasized that for protection, it is necessary to first install a voltage relay with a delay when turning on.

'A delay relay is typically installed in electrical panels after the meter. This depends on where it was installed during the work on the electrical network,' he explained.

According to Hichka, for household needs, it is sufficient to have a stabilizer with a power of 2-2.5 kW - this is enough for a typical apartment. However, it is advisable to entrust this work to a professional to avoid worsening the situation. The electrician emphasized that washing machines, televisions, and refrigerators are the most vulnerable to voltage surges.

Warnings about power outages

Earlier, Ukrainians were advised about three types of possible power outages.

In summary, the electrician explained how to protect equipment from voltage surges, providing advice on installing voltage relays and using stabilizers for household appliances. The importance of professionalism in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment was emphasized to avoid problems during voltage surges. This can help protect equipment from damage and extend its lifespan.
