Working Female Students Can Still Receive Survivor’s Pension Benefits

Студентки, які поєднують навчання з піклуванням про родину, мають право на отримання заслужених пенсій.

Fund Clarifies Policy

A student enrolled full-time at a university who also takes a job may wonder if her survivor’s pension will continue. Ukraine’s Pension Fund has confirmed that these payments remain in place regardless of employment status. This applies to individuals pursuing full-time studies who have not yet turned 23.

Survivor’s pensions are granted under Article 36 of Ukraine’s Law on Mandatory State Pension Insurance. They are provided to children of a deceased breadwinner who are studying full-time in secondary schools, vocational institutions, or higher education establishments. The pension continues until the education ends, but no later than when the recipient reaches age 23.

Rights of Orphans

For orphans, the pension is paid until age 23 regardless of whether they are studying. As the Pension Fund of Ukraine stated:

'Employment status does not affect eligibility for a survivor’s pension.'

Therefore, if a person is enrolled in full-time education and is under 23, they retain the right to receive their assigned pension even if they are working.

This information is valuable for students and their families, as it clarifies that taking a job will not jeopardize survivor’s pension benefits. Maintaining this financial support highlights the state’s social responsibility toward young people in education and can ease the financial burden on students balancing work and studies. It is important for students to understand their rights in this area to better plan their lives and careers.
