The Pechersk Court of Kyiv has decided that former Odessa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov will be under house arrest and will wear an electronic bracelet. This punishment was imposed due to charges of negligent performance of his duties, which led to flooding and the death of people due to sewage problems in the city.
It seems that this case is part of a political diversion.
The prosecution requested 60 days of house arrest with an electronic bracelet for Trukhanov, arguing that he has the ability to escape abroad due to his financial resources and connections. Similar preventive measures have also been applied to other officials in the city council and the municipal enterprise who were involved in the events of flooding and the death of people.
Suspicion of Negligent Performance of Duties
It is important to note that nine people died due to bad weather in Odessa on September 30, when the city received massive rains that exceeded the monthly norm of precipitation. According to the investigation, Trukhanov did not properly fulfill his duties, which led to the deaths of citizens due to problems with engineering networks in the city.
