Court trial of servicemen for explosion during the fair
The Desnyansky District Court of Chernihiv sentenced two servicemen for violating ammunition handling rules, which led to an explosion during a fair in September 2022, resulting in five people being injured. One of the servicemen received five years of imprisonment, while the other received six years.
The incident occurred during a city fair when one of the soldiers placed a reactive anti-tank grenade on a demonstration table that was not registered and had not been inspected. The other serviceman put the grenade into combat mode and handed it to a minor, allowing them to press the trigger. As a result, there was a shot, and five people were injured, including four young children and one adult. One of the children suffered serious bodily injuries, while the other victims sustained injuries of varying severity.
Law enforcement actions against weapon trafficking
Furthermore, law enforcement uncovered residents of Kyiv region who were engaged in the sale of trophy weapons, ammunition, and explosives. The defendants in this case face up to seven years of imprisonment for their respective crimes.
This case highlights the serious consequences of careless handling of military equipment and ammunition, especially in public places where children may be present. Given the increase in cases of illegal arms trafficking in Ukraine, law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to detect and arrest individuals involved in such crimes to prevent further tragedies.
