Prosecutors Win Legal Battle to Restore Shelter to Safe Standards
A private company has been compelled by a court ruling to bring a shelter in Kyiv’s Dnipro district into proper working order. The lawsuit, filed by the prosecutor’s office, was granted, and the decision has now been fully enforced. As a result, the facility located on Almatynska Street has been officially declared fit for use.
The shelter’s condition first came to light during inspections by the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv. For an extended period, the entity responsible for maintaining the site failed to keep it in adequate condition, leading to groundwater flooding throughout the space. Key systems—including air filtration, sewage, water supply, and electricity—were in need of repair. Additionally, protective doors were missing, and both the exterior load-bearing walls and flooring had sustained water damage.
Outcome of the Court Ruling
The Kyiv District Administrative Court sided with the prosecution, and the ruling was carried out with active support from the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office. According to an inspection report issued by experts from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv, the shelter is now capable of serving as a refuge for the public.
