Court Ruling Overturns Migrant Deportation Policy
A federal judge in Boston, Brian Murphy, has ruled that a policy from the administration of former President Donald Trump for the rapid deportation of migrants to third countries is unlawful. The court found the policy violated the right to due process. Introduced by the US Department of Homeland Security in 2025, the policy permitted deporting migrants to other countries provided diplomatic safety guarantees were obtained or the individual was given at least six hours' notice before removal.
Judge Murphy invalidated the rule but stayed the effect of his decision for 15 days to allow for an appeal. This is not the first time the courts have intervened in this area.
