Serhiy Holovatiy elected as chair of the Venice Commission's subcommittee
It was announced today that former Constitutional Court judge Serhiy Holovatiy has been re-elected as chair of the Venice Commission's subcommittee. This is already the third time Holovatiy has been elected to this position, his term has been extended for two years, and he has now joined the expanded bureau of the Venice Commission.
Adoption of important decisions
During this session, the Venice Commission adopted a document on the 'Revised Rule of Law' and expressed its position on the draft Law of Ukraine on amendments to the legislation on the competitive selection of candidates for the position of judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
Experienced position in the Venice Commission
Since 1997, Serhiy Holovatiy has held leadership positions in the Venice Commission. In 2016, he was awarded a special Pro Merito medal for his significant contribution to the Commission's activities.
End of career in a judicial position
'On May 29, 2024, former acting head of the Constitutional Court, judge Serhiy Holovatiy, turned 70 years old.'
This day was the last working day for Holovatiy in his status as a judge. According to the law on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the powers of judges are terminated upon reaching the age of 70. Holovatiy's term was supposed to end in March 2027, had it not been for this age limit.
Ukrainian judge Serhiy Holovatiy has received a new term as chair of the Venice Commission's subcommittee. During his term in office, Holovatiy will continue to promote the rule of law and make important decisions together with his colleagues in the Commission.
