A 10-Hour Blackout and Water Shutdown Hits Sumy Residents

Тривала відсутність електрики та води у жителів Сум.

Power Outage Scheduled in Sumy

On May 24, the city of Sumy will experience a 10-hour electricity cutoff from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM to carry out urgent repair work on key energy infrastructure. Acting Mayor Artem Kobzar announced the planned disruption, noting that crews from the regional power company will focus on restoration efforts. He stated,

“Unfortunately, tomorrow from six in the morning until 4:00 PM, there will be no electricity in Sumy. The energy workers will be busy with repairs.” — Artem Kobzar

Water Supply Impact

The power outage will also affect the operations of the municipal water utility 'Miskvodokanal,' which will switch to diesel generators. During this period, water will be supplied at reduced pressure from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Residents living on upper floors may face a complete lack of water for the entire duration of the repairs. Full water service will resume only after a stable power supply is restored to the pumping stations.

Andriy Kovalenko highlighted that the water situation remains challenging. Authorities urge the public to understand the temporary inconveniences caused by the power and water interruptions.

This planned blackout in Sumy is part of necessary steps to ensure the reliability of the energy grid. Such maintenance work is crucial for preventing larger-scale failures in the future. Local residents, especially those in high-rise buildings, should prepare for potential disruptions, particularly regarding water access during the repair window.
