International Aid Mobilized for Ukraine's Sumy Region
Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has detailed the results of mobilizing international assistance for the Sumy region during the first two months of 2024. This support is critical for a region facing daily pressure from Russian aggression. The aid package includes deliveries of generators and heaters, funding for energy stability, and the organization of respite trips for children.
Deliveries of Vital Equipment
In February, 600 heaters were delivered to the region's medical and social institutions. Furthermore, 65 generators with a capacity of 5 kW were provided for the region's critical life-support and social infrastructure systems. The breakdown of this support is as follows:
- 15 diesel generators were supplied with the support of the Estonian organization NGO HEROJAM SLAVA;
- 50 generators were provided thanks to the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI) from Austria;
- Two powerful generators were delivered with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Slovak Republic;
- The Maramureș branch of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania also contributed by handing over 23 generators, air heaters, electric blankets, and power banks.
Separately, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as part of its 'Warmth for Ukraine' initiative, provided $110,000. These funds have initiated the purchase of a 440 kVA generator for the Sumy Central City Hospital, as well as three mobile tents for units of the State Emergency Service in the Sumy region.
In January, 20 children from the Sumy region departed for a two-week respite trip to Vietnam. The children selected for this opportunity included those of defenders, children from large families, and children from internally displaced families. The trip was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, international partners, and the Ukrainian Red Cross.
“In the first two months of this year, through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian diplomatic missions, the Association of Spouses of Ukrainian Diplomats, international partners, and Ukrainian communities abroad, we have managed to secure a number of important decisions to support the energy and humanitarian resilience of the Sumy region.”

The Sumy region, as one of the most vulnerable, is receiving essential support to sustain its population and improve conditions for children affected by the conflict. The ongoing efforts of international partners demonstrate a sustained commitment to supporting Ukraine during this challenging period.
