Strike on Russian Defense Facility
In the early hours of August 16, Ukraine's Defense Forces hit the Kamensky Combine, a Russian defense enterprise located in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov Oblast. Satellite images later confirmed that the facility's workshops — shielded with anti-drone netting and earth embankments — were damaged. The plant plays a key role in Moscow's military-industrial complex, producing solid rocket fuel for Uragan, Smerch, and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems, as well as for missile and aviation systems.
The attack went ahead despite extensive Russian preparations. Analysts noted:
“Given the target's significance, the enemy prepared accordingly: nearly all critical workshops were covered with anti-drone protection and surrounded by earth berms.”
Ukrainian forces also managed to breach multiple layers of air defense, including Pantsir and S-300 systems.
Aftermath of the Attack
Satellite imagery shows at least five separate impacts across different workshops, including the powder shop and the mixer shop, both reinforced with earthen barriers. Several air defense vehicles were also damaged, with the full extent still being assessed. Exilenova+ reported:
“Fire traces were recorded at the position of one air defense system, likely a Pantsir S-1. Fire traces were also found at the positions of multifunctional target illumination and guidance radars for the S-300/400 complex.”
This strike underscores that Ukraine's Defense Forces continue to actively target Russian military infrastructure supporting the Russian army.
The incident highlights Ukraine's ongoing campaign of precision strikes against critical enemy military assets. Damage to the Kamensky Combine could significantly hamper Russia's ability to produce and supply ammunition, potentially affecting Russian combat capabilities. It also marks another sign of escalating military action and rising tensions in the region.
The recent strike on the Kamensky Combine is part of a broader strategy by Ukraine to undermine Russian military capabilities. This follows another significant operation where Ukrainian forces targeted four Russian naval vessels in Novorossiysk, highlighting the ongoing efforts to disrupt key military assets across various fronts.
