40 thousand Hasidim left Ukraine: how the mass departure took place

Hasidic pilgrims leave Ukraine


After celebrating the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah in Uman, approximately 40 thousand Hasidic pilgrims have already left the territory of Ukraine. This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) Andriy Demchenko on the television broadcast.



“In fact, the number [of Hasidim] that we recorded upon entry is almost 40 thousand citizens, so over these last days, starting from September 25, this same number has approximately left our country,” Demchenko noted.



According to the spokesperson, the main flow of Hasidim was on September 25, when more than 25 thousand people left Ukraine in just one day. In the following days, the number of departed individuals decreased, however, yesterday more than five thousand pilgrims left the country.



It is worth noting that a mass prayer Tikkun HaKlali took place in Uman on September 22, attended by over 10 thousand Hasidim. The prayer occurred just before the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah.



The authorities in Uman strengthened security measures during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. In 2025, the holiday falls on September 22-24.
