Saab Nears Delivery of Gripen E Fighters to Ukraine: Timeline Revealed

Saab активно працює над постачанням винищувачів Gripen E в Україну: очікувані дати.

Prospects for Ukraine-Sweden Military Cooperation

Sweden's advanced Gripen E fighter jets are poised for transfer to Ukraine. Negotiations for a major contract have entered their final phase. Saab CEO Micael Johansson has confirmed that the technical framework and production capacity are ready to fulfill the order, though the final decision rests with political leaders. This development comes as Ukraine continues to modernize its air force amid ongoing regional tensions.

The financial foundation of the deal is a record €90 billion credit package, which is expected to resolve all legal hurdles within this year. On October 22, 2025, Ukraine and Sweden signed a declaration of intent for defense cooperation, specifically covering the supply of the Gripen E variant.

Ukraine's Military Achievements

Separately, on April 25, Ukrainian unmanned systems forces struck Russian Su-57 and Su-34 aircraft at the Shagol airbase in Russia's Chelyabinsk region. Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the strikes, noting the aircraft were located 1,700 km from the Ukrainian border. The extent of damage to the fighters is still being assessed.

These developments signal accelerating defense collaboration between Ukraine and Sweden, which could significantly shift the regional military balance.

Against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts, Ukraine's military cooperation with Sweden reflects its drive to bolster defense capabilities through cutting-edge technology. Successful implementation of the Gripen E supply deal would not only modernize Ukraine's air force but also send a strong signal to international partners about sustained support for Ukraine amid regional security threats. Such moves are likely to influence strategic calculations both within Ukraine and beyond its borders.
