Bridging the Digital Divide in Ukraine’s Rural Communities
More than 1,000 villages across Ukraine are set to gain high-speed internet thanks to a significant reduction in the fees charged for leasing power poles by internet providers. Previously, providers faced a monthly rental fee of 10 UAH per pole, which hampered network expansion in smaller settlements. This cost has now been cut dramatically to just 1 kopiyka per pole, creating new opportunities to improve Ukraine’s digital infrastructure, a critical move amid ongoing martial law and the year following it.
This initiative was implemented in collaboration with Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, enabling providers to redirect funds from rental expenses toward upgrading their equipment. As a result, rural communities will finally receive better connectivity, facilitating access to online education, remote work, and government digital services such as Diia, regardless of their location.

Introducing reliable, fast internet in rural areas is a vital step toward enhancing residents’ quality of life and fostering regional economic growth.
