Starting from September 15, Kyiv has begun to gradually implement the "All Red" traffic light mode during the nationwide minute of silence. Every day at 9:00 AM, vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists will be stopped for one minute at designated intersections. Previously, a daily stop for public transport was introduced in the capital. This is reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

Where in Kyiv the "All Red" mode has started

In the first stage, the new mode will cover 18 traffic light objects in the central part of the capital. In particular, it includes the Ukrainian Heroes Square, European Square, Khreshchatyk, Bessarabskyi Passage, and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard.

Also included in the list are traffic lights on Basseina Street, Velyka Vasylkivska Street, Yevhen Chykalenko Street, Volodymyrska Street, and Prorezna Street. In the future, the system will be expanded to other parts of Kyiv where technical capabilities allow.

The mode works simply: at exactly 9:00 AM, the traffic lights will simultaneously turn red for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. The city notification system will announce the start of the minute of silence and count down its duration.

At 9:01 AM, the traffic lights will automatically revert to normal mode. Simultaneously, ground public transport will stop for one minute.

Throughout 2026, the traffic light network in Kyiv will also be gradually modernized. In particular, this spring, the city installed the first traffic light of the new standard with an additional red outline.

What will happen to traffic lights during an air raid alert

During an air raid alert, the "All Red" mode will not be applied. Traffic lights will continue to operate in normal mode to avoid creating additional obstacles for movement in the city.

The restrictions also do not apply to emergency and special vehicles that perform urgent tasks with activated flashing lights and sirens.

The Kyiv City State Administration emphasized that the traffic rules regarding passing on red lights do not change. Drivers must obey the traffic light signals just as at any other time.

The daily nationwide minute of silence is dedicated to the memory of the people who died as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The city authorities urge drivers and pedestrians to join the commemoration at 9:00 AM.

Recall that earlier Inkorr wrote about changes in the operation of Kyiv transport after the introduction of new rules from September 10.
