Elina Svitolina responded to death wishes on Instagram: I am a mother, not an athlete

Elina Svitolina, a Ukrainian tennis player, posted on Instagram the messages she received after losing in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. Some users insult the athlete and her loved ones, even wishing death upon her.


«I want to address everyone who places bets, first of all, I am a mother, not an athlete. The way you speak to women, to mothers, is shameful. If your mothers saw your messages, they would be disgusted...»

After losing to Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka, Svitolina ended her participation in the tournament in Montreal. The Japanese player won 6:2 in both sets.

The athlete called on fans to behave culturally and respectfully, reminding them of her femininity and motherhood.
