Tallinn sent generators and thermal guns to Ukraine: the cost of assistance is 40 thousand euros

Таллінн надав Україні генератори та теплові гармати: вартість допомоги складає 40 тисяч євро.

Ukraine's aid from Tallinn

The Estonian capital, Tallinn, has sent dozens of electric generators and thermal guns to Ukraine for the Zhytomyr region. The total cost of the shipment is about 40 thousand euros. The Tallinn authorities decided to use equipment from the city's strategic reserves to provide assistance, as a few weeks ago the authorities of the Zhytomyr region reached out to Tallinn for support.

Among the sent equipment are:

  • small generators
  • large models capable of ensuring the operation of social institutions

Peeter Raudsepp, a representative of the Tallinn authorities, noted:

'Right now we have sent dozens of electric generators, as well as diesel thermal guns. As I already said, they are being sent to very specific places according to this request for assistance.'

Detention of the Baltic Spirit vessel

In addition, on February 3, Estonian law enforcement agencies detained the container ship Baltic Spirit in the country's internal waters, which was heading from Ecuador to St. Petersburg. The vessel, flying the flag of the Bahamas, was carrying 23 Russian citizens. The operation to detain it involved the tax and customs department, the police, and the Estonian Navy.

Peeter Raudsepp also emphasized that transferring money instead of equipment could delay assistance:

'The thing is, if we had transferred the money, Ukraine would have had to organize purchases. If we started buying generators and thermal guns now, we would also have to go through procurement procedures, which would mean that most of the cold winter would have passed and we would be late.'

This initiative from Tallinn highlights the importance of international cooperation and rapid humanitarian assistance in times of crisis. Given the current challenges facing Ukraine, such supplies can significantly ease the lives of people who find themselves in difficult conditions. Estonia, as one of the countries supporting Ukraine, demonstrates a readiness to respond to the needs of neighboring countries, which could strengthen relations between states in the future.
