The head of the EU transport agency Apostolos Tzitzikostas expressed serious concern that the European transport network is not ready for the rapid movement of military forces in the event of Russian aggression.

In an interview with the Financial Times, the Greek Commissioner described a critical scenario: if troops from Moscow approach through the eastern border of the EU, NATO tanks could get stuck in tunnels, destroy bridges, and encounter bureaucratic procedures at the borders.

The problem is that European infrastructure is designed for civilian tasks, not for military transport. As trucks weigh up to 40 tons and tanks up to 70 tons, many roads and bridges are not suitable for transporting military equipment.

The EU Plans to Modernize the Transport Network for Military Purposes

'Currently, moving equipment and troops from Western Europe to the East takes weeks, and sometimes even months,' Tzitzikostas explained the scale of the problem.

The new strategy will aim to reduce the time for troop movement to 'counting hours, at most counting days.' There are plans to modernize 500 infrastructure facilities along four strategic military corridors.

The material presented in the article reflects the concern of the European Union about the state of the transport network in the event of a potential Russian aggression. The EU plans to modernize the infrastructure for military purposes in order to reduce the time for troop movement in the event of a threat.
