In European countries, representatives of the defense forces may appear near Ukrainian embassies and consulates to check military registration documents of men. This concerns citizens who are seeking consular services. This is reported by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper.
Checks of military enlistment offices abroad: who it concerns
According to the speaker of the Territorial Defense Forces, Oleksandr Musiyenko, representatives of the defense forces or recruiters may work near diplomatic establishments.
They will be able to:
-
check military registration status
-
clarify the status of their stay abroad
-
ask questions regarding the reasons for leaving.
This primarily concerns men of conscription age who are applying for or renewing documents, including foreign passports.
Consular services: when they may refuse
As Musiyenko explained, in most cases, there will be no problems if a person is abroad legally.
In particular, this may be:
-
official employment
-
studying
-
other verified reasons.
At the same time, in the absence of justified explanations, consular services may be denied.
What this means for Ukrainians abroad
The new approach is related to the need for military registration control and mobilization processes.
Against the backdrop of martial law in Ukraine, mobilization continues, and some citizens have an obligation to be registered for military service.
Therefore, requests to consulates abroad may be accompanied by additional checks, which will affect the ability to receive administrative services.
We remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has established new rules for obtaining foreign passports for men aged 18 to 60 who are abroad.
