Database Failure Disrupts Ukraine-Poland Border Traffic
A technical failure within the Polish Border Guard's database system has brought all border crossing points in Ukraine's Lviv and Volyn regions to a complete standstill. Polish technical specialists are currently working to resolve the issue, which has disrupted the normal operation of these checkpoints. This incident highlights the critical reliance on digital systems for managing modern international borders.
As of 10:30 AM, no significant queues for exiting or entering have been reported. It is important to note that on January 23, Polish farmers staged a protest near the 'Dolhobychuv - Uhryniv' crossing, but access to the border was not blocked during that demonstration.
Upcoming Overhaul of EU Border Crossing Rules
Separately, significant changes to border crossing rules with Poland and other EU countries are anticipated in 2026. Ukrainians will be required to undergo mandatory authorization in the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will replace traditional passport stamps with digital data recording. The full implementation of this system across the external borders of the Schengen Zone is scheduled for April 10, 2026.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine will provide further updates regarding the resumption of operations at the checkpoints.

Considering the planned changes to border rules in 2026, the current situation emphasizes the need for adaptation by both border authorities and travelers. Ukrainians should prepare for new requirements that may affect their journeys to Europe.
