Strengthening Telecom Resilience Amid Power Outages
Ukraine's telecommunications sector has revamped its power supply strategies for base stations and partnered closely with network operators and municipal services to maintain connectivity during blackout periods. Thanks to these efforts, 92% of base stations can now operate on battery power for up to eight hours, while 67% are capable of running for over three days using backup generators.
Key Measures Enhancing Emergency Response
Several initiatives have been put in place to boost readiness for emergency situations:
- More than 2,300 municipal workers completed specialized training through the Diia.Education platform, equipping them with skills to effectively manage blackout scenarios.
- Almost every region has tested and refined blackout response protocols, ensuring seamless coordination among regional military administrations, local communities, and telecom operators.
A notable demonstration of this preparedness occurred in August in the city of Odesa, where 71% of the telecommunications network remained operational despite blackout conditions. This success highlights the strong collaboration and effective planning carried out by all stakeholders involved.
