Television while eating provokes overeating: researchers' study

Дослідження показало, що перегляд телевізора під час їжі може спричинити переїдання.

Impact of watching television on calorie consumption

A study by scientists from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts found that watching television while eating may increase the risk of overeating. According to the results of the experiment published in the journal Physiology and Behavior, participants who watched television during meals consumed on average 164 kilocalories more than those who did not use gadgets.

The study involved over one hundred volunteers. The results showed that watching television during meals has a significant impact on the number of calories consumed. In contrast, the group using smartphones consumed approximately the same amount of food as participants without gadgets, indicating a lesser impact of smartphones on calorie consumption.

The importance of mindful eating

These results may have important implications for understanding the relationship between media consumption and eating habits, as well as helping to develop recommendations for healthy eating.

Given the growing popularity of television content and streaming services, such studies are becoming increasingly relevant in the context of modern lifestyles. They emphasize the importance of mindful eating, which may influence the recommendations of dietitians and healthcare professionals, especially among populations seeking to control their weight and overall health.
