Condition of the Victims Following the Lviv Terrorist Attack
Twelve people injured in the February 22 terrorist attack in Lviv remain hospitalized. As of the morning of February 23, three of them are in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Saint Panteleimon Hospital. These three patients underwent complex surgical procedures the previous day for injuries sustained from explosive devices.
At Saint Luke's Hospital, two victims with moderately severe injuries are receiving treatment in the surgical department. The other seven patients are being treated in specialized wards. Eleven other injured individuals, after receiving initial medical aid, were referred for outpatient care. The double detonation of improvised explosive devices resulted in the death of 23-year-old patrol officer Viktoriia Shpylka, with a further 24 people wounded. This attack underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Ukrainian cities amidst the wider conflict.
Legal Proceedings and Official Response
A 33-year-old resident of Kostopil in the Rivne region has been detained and formally suspected of committing a terrorist act resulting in death, as well as the illegal handling of weapons under Part 3 of Article 258 and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Lviv City Council confirmed the status of the victims, stating:
“As of the morning of February 23, 12 patients injured as a result of the terrorist attack in Lviv on the night of February 22 are in hospitals of the First Territorial Medical Association. Three of the most severely injured patients are in the intensive care unit of Saint Panteleimon Hospital. Their condition is serious.” - Lviv City Council
