Lviv Bombing Attack
A coordinated double explosion in Lviv, western Ukraine, has killed one police officer and injured 25 people, with 20 requiring hospitalization. The attack targeted first responders who arrived at the scene, and among the wounded is a teenager who lived nearby. As of 6:30 PM, 12 victims remain in the hospital, two of whom are in critical condition. Six law enforcement officers are also reported to be in serious condition in intensive care. The officer killed in the attack has been identified as 23-year-old Viktoriia Shpylka. The suspected perpetrator, a Ukrainian citizen from the Rivne region, was apprehended approximately ten hours after the attack in a district center of the Lviv region. The primary line of the investigation indicates the crime was commissioned by Russian special services.
Official Response
Ukraine's Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, urgently traveled to Lviv to coordinate the law enforcement response. Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi stated:
“This was not a business dispute, but a hostile special operation aimed at killing as many law enforcement officers as possible.” - Andrii Sadovyi
He also called on Ukraine's Security Service to consider public opinion regarding the incident.
