Statement from the Head of the Association of Frontline Cities

Ihor Terekhov, head of the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities, has accused Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, of derailing its work by failing to hold a session. He urged deputies to work more actively on legislative initiatives concerning heating supply and the restoration of energy infrastructure. Terekhov stressed that with the population enduring cold, electricity cuts, and a lack of heating, the legislature has no right to remain 'on vacation.' This criticism comes during a winter where Russia's targeted attacks on energy systems have created a dire humanitarian situation.

The Energy Supply Crisis

Terekhov highlighted the severity of the current crisis, stating:

When the country is freezing, parliament has no right to 'rest.' When people are without light and heat, the authorities have no right to be absent. The war does not pause. Responsibility shouldn't either.
— Terekhov

These words underscore the urgent action required from elected officials as Ukrainians face the harsh realities of the ongoing energy crisis.

The energy supply situation in Ukraine remains critical, especially during winter when temperatures drop significantly. The absence of electricity and heating poses serious risks to the population, demanding immediate solutions from the state.

  • It is vital for legislators to heed the calls of experts;
  • Work more proactively to resolve energy issues;
  • And ensure the comfort and safety of citizens.
