Threads Experiments With Automatic Audio Transcription
Threads is testing a feature that automatically turns the audio in podcast posts into readable text, letting users follow along without ever hitting the volume button. Threads chief Conor Hayes announced the move, and Engadget confirmed the report. The addition is designed to make podcast content easier to digest for people who prefer reading over listening.
The tool generates a text transcript of audio clips and is just one of several podcast-sharing features Threads currently has in development. Still, not every experiment is guaranteed to make it to the broader Threads community.
A Broader Media Push Takes Shape
This isn't Threads' first swing at media tools: in November 2025, it rolled out features to help promote audio and video content. Then in June 2026, the platform said it had crossed 500 million monthly active users, a signal of its growing mainstream appeal.
If the transcription experiment becomes permanent, it could make podcasts far more accessible, especially for those who'd rather read than listen. It could also help creators expand their reach to audiences who are in silent environments or who rely on text-based access. As the podcast space gets more competitive, convenience features like this may play a key role in keeping current users engaged and attracting new ones.
