The head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Matviy Bidny, expressed his opinion on the IOC's decision regarding the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions under their own flags. He noted that this decision was predictable, as Russia employs various dishonest methods of influence. The head emphasized that Ukrainian athletes will always represent Ukraine at international competitions under its flag.
'What should we do? Be truthful to ourselves, understanding that we can only rely on ourselves. No one will fight for us except ourselves, there is no point in waiting for sympathy!'
The IOC recommended allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete at the youth level under their own flags. Organizers noted that the decision on the participation of young athletes will depend on international federations, and they plan to adhere to standard protocols regarding flags, anthems, and other elements, ensuring the good reputation of their country.
