Only seven of the 16 Russians nominated for the World Championship were granted permission to compete by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). This was reported by
Glavkom.
The IWF denied participation in the tournament to nine Russian weightlifters who were included in the main application, as well as four reserves. The following athletes have been left out of the World Championship: Zulfat Garayev, Gevorg Serobyan, Sergey Petrov, Artem Okulov, Georgy Kupcov, Has-Magomed Balayev, Danilo Vagaitsev, and reserves Ramazan Janhotov, Mikhail Podkoritov, Yevgenia Guseva, and Dana Tebloeva.
The World Championship will also be skipped by the bronze medalist of the 2024 Olympics, Belarusian Yevgeny Tikhontsev.
We remind you that
Glavkomsent a request to the IWF, mentioning Russian weightlifters who illegally visited the annexed Crimea and are members of the Russian military club CSKA.
Russian weightlifters entered the occupied territory of Crimea without passing customs and border control, according to the laws of our country. They violated the legislation of Ukraine.
The participation of seven Russian weightlifters in the World Championship was prohibited due to violations of laws and illegal visits to the annexed territory, as they are members of the Russian military club. Nine weightlifters from Russia were not allowed to compete in the tournament, among them heavyweight world-class and bronze medalists of world and Olympic championships. The Belarusian athlete will also miss the competition. This decision has caused some surprise in the sports world and continues to highlight the tense relations in the sports sector.
