Tragedy in Dnipro
On April 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the devastating toll of Russian strikes on Dnipro, which left five people dead and more than 40 injured. The attacks, carried out with missiles and drones, struck residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and other civilian sites. Russian forces launched a second assault on the same residential neighborhood later in the day, causing extensive damage. Among the wounded are children; 23 people required hospitalization, and two remain missing.
Cyprus Visit and Presidential Appeals
In a video address and during an interview on the Yedyni Novyny telethon, Zelenskyy summarized the outcomes of his visit to Cyprus, where three European nations confirmed fresh contributions to the PURL program. The president also announced the unblocking of a financial support package and the implementation of the 20th sanctions package against Russia. He urged international partners to bolster air defense systems, emphasizing:
“Shahed drones kill people just the same, and protection against cruise missiles and ballistic weapons must be equally reliable.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also outlined future priorities, including the launch of the first negotiation cluster on the path to European Union membership. An agreement was reached to open all clusters by 2026. The president stressed the need for relentless pressure on Moscow:
“There must be no pauses in sanctions against Russia for any of these strikes.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He called on the world not to lose focus on the war in Ukraine, even amid developments in other nations such as Iran. Reflecting on the latest attacks, Zelenskyy stated: “We are facing strikes like these, so we cannot waste time. We must protect our energy grid, logistics—everything.”
These events underscore the ongoing Russian military aggression against Ukraine and its impact on civilians. The targeting of residential areas highlights the daily dangers Ukrainians endure. Continued support from international partners—particularly in financing and sanctions against Russia—remains vital to Ukraine’s fight for security and recovery. President Zelenskyy’s remarks stress the urgent need to safeguard people and infrastructure. Opening new EU negotiation clusters could mark a significant step in Ukraine’s integration into the European community.
The ongoing conflict continues to evolve, with President Zelenskyy addressing not only the immediate impacts of the recent attacks but also the broader implications for Ukraine's defense and international relations.
