Trump’s Statements on Negotiations with Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated he is prepared to dispatch a delegation to Moscow to hold discussions regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine. Trump emphasized that he does not rule out the possibility of sending American representatives to Russia, though he did not specify the format of potential talks or the composition of the delegation. The president also highlighted alarming casualty figures: 25,000 young soldiers died in the past month, with monthly fatalities averaging between 25,000 and 30,000.

Anticipated Negotiations and Diplomatic Push

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has similarly expressed expectations for a visit by Trump’s representatives around the turn of spring and summer. Ukraine’s side is currently coordinating a schedule of contacts following delegation talks in the United States. This reflects an intensification of diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.

It is worth noting that on December 2, 2025, negotiations took place in Moscow concerning the terms of a peace agreement with Ukraine. The five-hour meeting involved the following individuals:

  • Russian dictator Vladimir Putin,
  • Kirill Dmitriev,
  • U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
  • Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

These talks undoubtedly signal the continuation of international efforts to achieve peace in the region.

Commenting on the situation, Trump stated: 'Well, I would do it. I would very much like this war to end.'

He added that 'I would really like to see the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, where last month 25,000 young soldiers died, and that averages 25–30,000 soldiers per month.' These remarks underscore his desire to end the war and reduce human casualties.

The statements from Trump and Zelenskyy regarding possible negotiations point to a new phase in international efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The rising death toll highlights the urgency of the situation, which may spur further diplomatic action. The next steps by the United States and Ukraine could shape the future of peace talks and influence overall security in the region.
