Historic peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan

A historic ceremony for the signing of a trilateral peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was held at the White House with the participation of US President Donald Trump. The document will end more than thirty years of conflict between the Caucasian republics.

President Trump personally confirmed the signing of the ceasefire declaration between Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan on August 8, 2025.

'For over 30 years they have been fighting, but now they are friends — and they will remain friends. I thank you for visiting the US to sign this important and historic document in our country,' the American leader stated during the trilateral meeting.

Historic agreement and future prospects

The agreement implies a radical change in relations between former adversaries. 'Armenia and Azerbaijan commit to permanently cease all hostilities, open trade, and respect each other's territorial integrity,' Trump announced at the meeting with the leaders of the countries.

The US president expressed confidence in the future relations between Aliyev and Pashinyan, noting that they will have 'excellent relations,' and if problems arise — 'call me, and I will resolve everything.'

At the same time as the peace agreement, Washington announced the lifting of restrictions on military cooperation with Azerbaijan. 'They have fought for 35 years. But now they are friends,' Trump emphasized.

Now the historic agreement must be ratified by the parliaments of both countries to come into full effect.

Future negotiations on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine

Separately, the US president hinted at future negotiations concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict. 'As for Ukraine and Russia, we have information for you that we will share later,' Trump told reporters. 'We are working on another case that you actively report on regarding Russia and Ukraine. And we will provide you with more information a bit later.'

During the historic ceremony at the White House, the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was signed with the participation of US President Donald Trump, opening new prospects for cooperation and peace between the states. Further actions on the ratification of the agreement and discussions of possible changes in the situation between Russia and Ukraine are now expected.
